Housing: We must cut red tape and roll back tariffs on building materials so we can build millions of new homes. This is a simple supply and demand issue in many cases and if we can build a variety of entry level housing, provide first time home buyers with down payment assistance, we can give the American dream of owning your own home to the next generation.Childcare: We should cap costs based on the percentage of family income which will lower costs for families and boost those available to join the workforce.Utilities: We have to unleash the American energy enterprise and fast track innovative new sources of energy to bring down utilities costs. Hold large utility companies responsible for price gouging consumers.Food and Groceries: &nbsp;Congress has to take back control of the tariff power to combat rising costs, protect consumers against predatory spread pricing, and increase American food production and strengthen our supply chains by supporting local family farms.

Too many Iowans are living pay check to pay check, making impossible choices because of their financial realities.&nbsp; It’s the mom making the impossible choice, do I pay my utility bill or buy my child a winter coat. The Dad, do I put food on the table for my family, or pay the rent.&nbsp; No one should have to make these kinds of choices. DC politicians are turning a blind eye to challenges that hard working families face in our state. Instead of fighting for us, they are more concerned with their billionaire donors, and the predatory corporations that care more about their bottom line than the person behind it.

We need new leadership who will actually get a new farm bill over the finish line.Incentivize small and family owned farms to grow crops for food and rebuild our local production facilities and system so farmers have a place to sell their products.Nationalize Right to Repair to protect Iowan’s ability to fix their machinery and not have to take it back to the original manufacturer where they are charged hundreds or thousands of dollars to do something a farmer can do themself.&nbsp;Invest in sustainable agriculture practices like cover crops, wetlands, and prairies to increase soil health and protect water quality.End the devastating tariffs that have destroyed the decades of work done to secure foreign markets.

Iowa wouldn’t be Iowa without our farmers. I will always stand with the farmers— the stewards of our land, the hands that feed the people of the world, and the legacy of our state.&nbsp; Iowa farmers have had to fight through economic downturns, unpredictable markets, and rising costs. Our farmers cannot wait another decade to pass a new farm bill. They need leaders who will stand with them in the fight for their markets and their pocket books.

Pass Commonsense Immigration Reform: Congress has failed in its duty to fix our broken immigration system. We need to invest in border security, increase the number of immigration judges to deal with the massive backlog of cases, and create a path to citizenship for hard working, taxpaying people in this country.Reform ICE: ICE has been used to terrorize innocent and law abiding American citizens in cities across this country. We need new leadership, new training methods, and get back to the basics of targeting the worst of the worst.Common Sense Gun Safety: We need to get dangerous weapons out of criminals hands and follow our police officers guidance. We must close loopholes, mandate violent history checks, pass red flag laws, and ban assault weapons. As a mother, I should not be scared to send my child to school.Invest in Law Enforcement: Our police officers are on the front lines of the systemic problems in our society. We need to ensure law enforcement is fully funded, paid well, and their benefits are protected.

As a mother, I want my children and community to always be safe. But what is happening in America today is not making our communities safer. Congress has clearly failed on both immigration reform, and gun safety reform. We need new leadership who will move common sense policies forward to make sure that our country is safe and free.&nbsp;

Dubuque, IA – This afternoon, the House of Representatives voted to pass a three year extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits, after Iowa Republicans did nothing for months to prevent these credits from expiring. State Representative and candidate for IA-02 Lindsay James released the following statement: “Too many of our neighbors face skyrocketing health care costs thanks to the failures of Washington and Iowa Republicans, who have done nothing to solve this problem. Iowans need someone who will bring real solutions to Washington to fix the skyrocketing costs of healthcare and insurance in our state. I am grateful that the House passed this bill to make sure the 26,000 Iowans in this district who depend on ACA tax credits will continue to be able to afford health insurance for another three years, but it’s not enough. No one in the United States should have to face bankruptcy because of a healthcare emergency.
