Lindsay James Decisively Wins Final IA-02 Debate Against Lobbyist Joe Mitchell

DUBUQUE, IA - Lindsay James won tonight’s Iowa PBS debate against Joe Mitchell, highlighting her record of standing up to big corporations and fighting for an affordable Iowa while putting Mitchell on the back foot for offering more of the same failed, out-of-touch policies that have been making life harder for working Iowans.

“As a mom and a chaplain who has always fought for Iowa families, Lindsay James proved again that she understands the needs of working people and will fight to lower costs, cut taxes, and bring change to Iowa,” said Jackson Smith, campaign manager. “Joe Mitchell had no answers on how he will get prices down or stop corruption: instead, he said he would vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, had nothing to say in response to rural hospital leaders concerned about the funding cuts he backed, and failed to defend his record of using his positions to enrich himself. Once again, Iowans saw a clear contrast: Lindsay will work for Iowa, Joe will work for himself and the DC and Mar-a-Lago elites. ”

KEY DEBATE MOMENTS:

  • When asked if he would vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Joe Mitchell said,  “Yeah, I would vote to repeal it.”

  • When asked about his response to the rural hospital leaders sounding the alarm about the billions in rural health care cuts Mitchell backs, he had zero answers.

  • Lindsay reiterated her support for No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Social Security, and cutting taxes for the middle class.

Lindsay made clear that she will fight to lower costs, cut taxes for middle class families, and expand healthcare access for northeast Iowan families. Joe Mitchell, meanwhile, was left defending his record of profiting from public office and championing failed  D.C. policies that raise prices for everyday people.
