PRESS RELEASE
Lindsay James Touts Labor Support with AFSCME National and Council 61 Presidents
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Today, Lindsay James hosted a press conference with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) National President Patrick Moran and Council 61 AFSCME President Todd Copley to tout her strong labor support as the only labor-endorsed candidate in the race for Iowa’s second congressional district.
“Public employees are the lifeblood of our Iowan communities,” said Lindsay James. “Too many Iowans are making impossible choices living paycheck to paycheck. There is a disproportionately loud voice for special interests, the ultra-wealthy, and the big corporations in our policy making places while our hard working families get left behind. Our workers, our unions, and our families deserve a leader that will give them an equal voice in our policy making. I’m ready to be that leader in Washington and I’m so grateful for the support of AFSCME in this race.”
“We know it’s a tough economic environment for regular working people,” said AFSCME National President Patrick Moran. “Executives are making hand over fist while everyday people are experiencing an affordability crisis from groceries to rent to healthcare to diesel fuel. That’s why we need champions in Congress who will take on billionaires, tech bros, and the people that are making so much more on the backs of everyone else. Lindsay James is a champion for working people. We’re going to send her to Congress to fight for us and for the life that Iowans deserve.”
“We need leaders who will stand with workers, respect organized labor, and fight for an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top,” said Council 61 AFSCME President Todd Copley. “Joe Mitchell voted for rollbacks to unemployment, against raising the minimum wage, and against restoring collective bargaining for Iowa workers. Lindsay James will be a leader that fights for workers, not the ultra-wealthy, and that’s why we need her in Congress.”
Lindsay James has built broad coalition support across IA-02 and is the only labor endorsed candidate in the race. She is proud to have the support of The Iowa Federation of Labor, Laborers’ International Union of North America, Iowa Building and Construction Trades Council, Iowa State Council of Machinists, Iowa Teamsters, Iowa State Building & Construction Trades, AFSCME Council 61, Carpenters, IBEW, UAW, AFGE, NALC, UA, NALC, NEA, Iron Workers Local 89, and Operating Engineers Local 150. Lindsay is also endorsed by End Citizens United, the largest anti-corruption organization in Washington D.C fighting to end money in politics.
